About The F-14A Tomcat “Black Knights”

First flown in 1970, the F-14A Tomcat served as a premier air-defence fighter before expanding into precision strike from 1990. With the AN/AAQ-14 LANTIRN targeting pod, the Tomcat gained long-range, pinpoint delivery of laser-guided munitions such as the GBU-16 and GBU-24. VF-154 “Black Knights”, attached to the USS Kittyhawk and homeported at Yokosuka, Japan, operated the F-14A from 1984 and saw extensive service, including during Operation Desert Shield.
